Episode 08 - Alison Stewart - F-Off Doug Ford!

Ali Stewart, Toronto’s Bicycle Mayor and a passionate advocate for cycling, is on a mission to make biking more inclusive, joyful, and accessible. From her early days riding a sparkly CCM bike in Guelph to leading the charge for safer streets, Ali’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of two wheels.

Ali’s love for biking began as a teenager, offering freedom and affordability. But as Toronto’s streets grew more stressful, frustration turned into action. In 2013, she shifted from a casual rider to a vocal advocate, working with Cycle Toronto to push for better infrastructure and policies.

In 2024, Ali founded Femme & Friends, a cycling group designed to welcome women, trans, and femme riders. With slow rolls, picnics, and even bike fairs, the group creates a fun, judgment-free space for beginners and seasoned riders alike. “We attract people when it’s joyful,” Ali says.

With Ontario’s government threatening to remove key bike lanes, she’s part of the pushback, emphasizing that safe streets benefit everyone. “Complete streets mean safer roads for pedestrians, cyclists, *and* drivers,” she argues.
